Penarth Street London
Union4 prepared and co-ordinated a planning application for the redevelopment of an existing industrial site at 16-28 Penarth Street in South Bermondsey in the London Borough of Southwark. The application involved the demolition of existing buildings on the site, followed by the construction of an integrated, mixed-use development comprising of light industrial workspaces with R&D and office workspace at ground and mezzanine floor levels, together with 283 co-living studios and 47 affordable residential apartments on the floors above. The development also meets the servicing requirements of the new workspaces and provides extensive landscaped communal open space, children’s play space, and a range of amenities for the new community. Union4 worked alongside Child Graddon Lewis Architects and a multi-disciplinary project team on behalf Caddick Developments and the existing industrial occupier, James Glancy Design Ltd. The project involved extensive consultation with Southwark Council, the GLA, local businesses and a range of other stakeholders. Southwark Council resolved to grant planning permission in June 2023.
