Trent BESS Facility Nottinghamshire

We supported our client, Tribus Clean Energy, in securing planning permission for the development of a battery energy storage system (BESS) and an associated compensatory flood management area on land near Cottam Substation in Nottinghamshire. The BESS facility will have a storage capacity of up to 500 megawatts and will provide for the storage, importation and exportation of energy to the transmission network. We worked alongside Tribus and the Project Team to bring forward a carefully considered and environmentally sustainable design, which will help to strengthen energy security and support the transition to net zero. 

The location of the site near the River Trent requires a long-term and sustainable solution to mitigate the impacts of a worst-case flood event during the design life of the BESS facility. In this regard, the compensatory flood management was designed in close consultation with the Environment Agency and was subject to a comprehensive process of hydraulic modelling. The project also includes extensive landscape planting and biodiversity enhancements.

The proposed development was unanimously approved by the Planning Committee at Bassetlaw District Council.
