Two applications were submitted to redevelop areas of public realm within the Tamworth Town Centre Conservation Area. These sites were included within Tamworth's Future High Street's Fund Masterplan which will enhance the historic environment, add vitality to the town centre and boost the local economy. The works include the demolition of the existing Nationwide building to open up visual and physical connections between historic assets in the town centre. In addition, the redevelopment of the Castle Bridge walkway will improve accessibility and the user experience of people moving from Market Street to the Castle grounds. Redevelopment works to St Editha's Square will deliver a multifunctional space for market stalls and public events, while providing an environment that enables a positive user experience and compliments other areas of public realm within the Town Centre..
